My
(Kathy J) love affair with Bulldogs started in 1985 when I met this cute
little red bitch. Her name was Ruby. She was the foundation
bitch for Rely-A-Bull Bulldogs, breeders Joan & Ron Jacobsen, who
are my parents. I crouched down to greet her and boom - I
landed on the floor on my back with this little puppy kissing my face,
standing on my chest and wiggling like crazy.
Fantasies Bulldogs began in 1987 with a rescue named
Ceasar of Zion, better known as Theo. Theo was out of Ruby's first
litter and was being ignored and mistreated by his owners. So he
became part of my home. A year or so later I decided Theo needed a friend
- so Rely-A-Bull Bilbo Baggins joined the family. He was to be our first
show hopeful. While he didn't work out in the conformation ring, he had
a bit of a "gay" tail, Billy went on to earn a Canine Good Citizen
certificate, a Therapy Dog Title along with an Obedience - Companion Dog
Title.
Dennis joined the family around 1989. Dennis joined the league of
dog enthusiasts after experiencing his first dog show at Dunn Sports Arena.
My dad, Ron Jacobsen, had just come out of the ring, where his dog Dallas
had just won Winners Dog - finishing his Championship title. Dennis found
his enthusiasm and excitement infectious and wanted to know more about
what had just happened. He sat next to a lady named Ann Hubbard.
Her husband Ernie was judging. Ann shared the ins and
outs of the dog show with Dennis. That was it ! Dennis was hooked !!!
Ariel
- Rely-A-Bull Fantasies Ariel joined the family in 1990. She was a gift
from my parents and to be our foundation bitch. As things go she didn't
work out, but she spent her entire life with us. She was an excellent
teacher for the puppies that followed. She taught them not to beg at the
table and to behave when they were misbehaving. She passed away in 2002
of natural causes at the age of 11.5 years. We miss her very much but
we know she is waiting at Rainbow Bridge with Theo and the other Fantasies
kids that have left us over the years.
Shortly after we got Ariel, I expanded my interest to the Chow Chow. We
worked with the Milu Kennel and ended up with the most wonderful Chow
Chow in the world, her name was Rosie. Rosie was shown in conformation
and had 8 points, until one day she decided the ring was not for her.
Neither was the whelping box. So like Ariel she hung around with us for
nearly 12 years of age. She was a funny girl, thought she was a bulldog.
Played with all of our puppies teaching them respect for other breeds
- like the Chow. Rosie was also our watch dog - while the bullies napped
Rosie kept a staunch look-out - that dog could hear a squirrel running
across the driveway and she'd let you know about it too! We miss Rosie
also.
CH Elroston Snow White - Snowy is the foundation of Fantasies Bulldogs.
She was brought over from Australia's Elroston Kennels in 1993.
Breeders Merle, Norm and Howard Randell - wonderful people, gave us the
opportunity to own this magnificent and healthy girl. Snowy finished her
Championship at the age of 18 months. She took placements at several Nationals
and raised 2 very nice quality litters. Out of which we got her daughter
-Fantasies Bashful. Bash started to pick up where Snowy left off in the
Show ring. Bashful was on her way to finishing her Championship when she
experienced two traumatic incidents at 2 different show sites. The second
incident did her in and she decided that the show ring was not for her.
Bash was a wonderful producer - giving us 3 healthy litters over the years..
Bashful's second litter, she was bred to CH Hug-O-Bull's Italian Stallion,
produced our Lightnin who finished her Championship title in June of 2002.
She took the summer off and in October -
LIGHTNIN
STRUCK at the 2002 BCA National Show. Our Lights won
the title of National Best of Breed. The third
bitch in the history of the Nationals to walk away with this
coveted title. We also won the Rodney Award for BOB who is Breeder/Owner/Handled.
Lights came back to the 2004 Nationals after taking time off to have a
litter of pups and took First Place in the Brood Bitch Competition
while the sire of our litter - CH. Adamant Show and Tell took the Stud
Dog title. We are very proud of her, she is retired and we are planning
on future breedings.
Fantasies
Bulldogs doesn't stop there. At the time of this writing - we have a new
litter on the ground out of Shamrock Fantasies Queen Ce'Nedra and we are
actively planning future breedings for conformation as well as obedience
bulldogs. Watch for our kids they will be out soon!
Fantasies Bulldogs is based in New Jersey.
